Sweet liberty! One of my favorite PS4-era shooters is back with a whole new perspective and it’s up to me and my friends to defend Super Earth in glorious co-op! After going hands-on with Helldivers 2 for three hours, I’m sold on the bold pivot from the original’s top-down view to the sequel’s new third-person perspective, the appetizing roster of deadly gadgets, and the outrageous comedic tone that expertly channels the low-budget action film vibes that pair perfectly with the developer’s live-service ambitions.

Given that the original Helldivers from 2015 is still exclusive, though, we don't suggest getting your hopes up.

On-line games like this one often launch alongside a roadmap that informs players when the developers plan to add specific types of new content in future updates. There's not an official publicly released roadmap for Helldivers 2 yet
Image: Arrowhead Game Studios Players start out as lowly soldiers tasked with defending Super Earth from a galaxy of bugs (which actually means going to other planets and killing them, pelo matter where they live). You have your own ship, which serves as your home base and allows you (and your squad of up to three friends) to launch Helldivers 2 Gameplay missions to new planets, customize your loadout, and choose recognizable freedom-saving weapons like orbital drone strikes and chemical weapons, called Stratagems.
Missions vary from raising patriotic flags to realigning communications equipment and rescuing civilian colonists, but there are always side tasks too, including destroying bases and exploring abandoned research stations. You may also discover Samples, which can be collected to buy spacecraft upgrades, and Medals, which get you new armour and custom items. The main currency is Requisition Slips, which pay for new Strategems from a vast and exotic list.
As a Helldiver, it’s your responsibility to combat these alien forces and protect your home planet and restore peace. In doing so, you’ll need to engage in high-stakes combat with an onslaught of alien lifeforms alongside your comrades. With a powerful arsenal at your disposal, Helldivers 2

Combat is accompanied by frequent sprays of blood and dismemberment as players exterminate the alien forces or players and squad mates are hit by environmental explosions or friendly fire. Just to be clear, I’m not a fan of most live-service games. However, the implementation of the live-service model just fits the game so well. It uses a pseudo battle pass system for unlocking different weapons, armor, and emotes, with the added bonus of you choosing which items to get.
